2nd edition. ~ Paperback, F. 310pp, a fine copy. Facsimile reprint of the 1910 edition, with a new introduction. ~ A critique of the works of Darwin by the satirical novelist Butler. Because he was regfarded as a novelist by his peers this work was not taken too seriously upon its publication, but modern scholars are begining to accept it as a more profound critique than others produced at the time. Butler centered his arguments around memory & the unconscious.

In the book a Utopian land is discovered - Erewhon - with which Butler draws comparison & thus criticism of Victorian life.
